There is a great quote from a great bar in Brookings. “Life is too short for cheap beer!” Which I have to agree with. Although, contradictorily I have to also agree with “I fear no beer”. However, in the spirit of the former, I took up a the offer from Ben to head down to Monks bar here in Sioux Falls for a couple of drinks after work. Let me tell you, this bar is phenomenal!

Great features start with the fact it serves great beer and continues through to the point of not allowing smoking! So you can not only sit back and enjoy a premium beer after a day of work…in addition to that, you get to breathe clean air! Win - Win as far as I’m concerned! Of those fine brews they serve up to the town folk, I indulged in of course a Chimay (which I have found to be one of my favorite since my trip out to Sacramento/San Francisco) in the “Reserve” blue cap variety and also (a new favorite) a St Bernardus Abt 12. This is a great brew created on the border of France and Belgium in of course a Trappist Monastery. I don’t care what I do in my life….some day I want to take a tour of that little hole in the wall of Belgium and see what this country has hiding up it’s sleeve. Also, you really can’t help but love a country that is really there just to piss of France and Germany…now am I right, or am I right?

Well I spent a large portion of my night trying to figure out how the mod_rewrite worked on apache to get rid of this pesky index.php in my url…but when I decided I was spinning my tires a little too much, I decided to console myself by throwing down a new design for the site. So here it is….check it out, kick the tires.

It doesn’t work in IE6…..and I don’t really care. Cause IE6 really should die a slow death anyways ;)

So if you’re down with that idea….check this js out and throw it in… END6! \m/

UPDATE: index.php is now gone.  rewrite.load was available…just not enabled.  So we got it rolling now.   (thanks Joe!)

So I’m sitting here at work (don’t worry…I’m not charging this time to any clients) between a couple people that I never thought would start becoming the norm vs an extremely sad exception. Developers doing there development work on Macs aka TrendMachines. As any piece of hardware out of the Apple marketing monster is, the Apple laptop is just as much a piece fashion as it is a functional tool.

Someone needs to fill me in on what’s happening here. Are macs becoming that standardized that they are a viable development option…even at the application development level? I can see it happening more where I’m at, because of the fact some of our developers are starting to come from the “web person” role being moved into “web development” instead of where I come from “computer science/application development” moving into “web development”. So they already using their machine to do photoshop designs and media editing instead of strict development. Also in web development I can see it more due to the fact the “IDE’s” consist of EditPlus and firefox plugins for the most part versus the usual machine intensive Visual Studios of application development.

This all hit me in the last few weeks when I went out to the North American eZ Publish Partner Meeting in Chicago and saw 3 or 4 developers using there Macbooks at the meeting and then our newest developer being hired on requesting a Macbook vs a PC laptop. On top of that, Joe, is switching to a Macbook from his Linux based PC. What gives?

Current Developer Count:

  • 2 PC’s (Deane and I)
  • 3 Macs (Joe, Ben, Tim)

…we’re losing ground fast.

Seriously…I’ve been a fan of what KTM does for a while. That’s right, take that Reid! Stemming from when I rode/(lightly) raced motocross in high school. Although I’ve never owned a KTM (only Yama’s and Hondo’s for me)…I’ve always wanted one. Cut to about a year ago when I hear about the X-Bow! This speed freak will has a 220hp Audi TFSI engine strapped to it giving it enough speed to make you loose your sack lunch you ate in turn 1 and get around the track in time catch it in the visor on the way back around! (was that too much? I felt like I may have gone too far).

Now…again thanks to the boys at AutoBlog I see it’s ready for it’s first shot at the racing circuit on April 20th. I’ll be patiently waiting over at YouTube for the videos. Catch ya’s later!
